Eclipse: Chinese Artist-Slash-Architect Wins 1st Place wth Columbia Art League

My friend Tang, Wen has been enjoying the stimulating atmosphere on the Missouri University Campus. He was inspired to compete in the Eclipse 2017 contest held by the Columbia Art League. His pen and ink drawing took FIRST PLACE. Since the day I met him, he has been analyzing the ways and wherefores of the American educational system. Today, he shares his view of a recent course he took, and I share my friend with you!

This summer I took a studio course on house design at Missouri University. There were only 14 students enrolled in it.  As a university professor myself, I always have taught 30 in one class. So, this was really a small group. Maybe these students paid more expensive tuition. All humor aside, the instructor was a senior professor who has 30 years of experience in education. When I shadowed him in the studio, I found he encouraged and inspired everyone.

Central to their study, he gave them a prestigious master design as a model to spark student creativity. Meanwhile, the professor modified sketches and model detail student by student, one by one. He even described other masters who have different design styles, then told students to google them. That`s remarkable to me!

When I attended the final presentation after eight weeks of class, I was full of admiration. Any possibility for skepticism was gone. I am grateful to the professor who invited me to this studio class. It will forever be a wonderful experience in my life.
